Inter Miami CF is reportedly planning a major renaming of its new home ground, which is currently under construction at Miami Freedom Park and is scheduled to open in 2026. According to Argentinian media sources, the MLS club intends to name the stadium the Lionel Andrés Messi Stadium.
The move would be a fitting tribute to their star player, Lionel Messi, who has become the key figure and captain of the franchise since his arrival. The World Cup winner recently solidified his commitment by extending his contract with the American club until 2028.
Messi’s impact on the club, nicknamed "The Herons," has been transformative: he has secured the MLS Regular Season Golden Boot and stands as the all-time leading scorer for the club, which was founded in 2018.
The new stadium, located near the international airport on the former Melreese golf course site, is co-owned by David Beckham and the Mas brothers. The proposed naming is a clear strategy to leverage Messi's global brand and cement his legacy with the club and the city of Miami ahead of the stadium's planned opening in 2026.
